It's not about the distro really, but more about the Desktop Environement. I like the many ways you can configure your KDE desktop for that purpose :

Right click anywhere on your KDE desktop, select the last entry of the appearing menu (YMMV).

Select the search and launch layout and apply your settings.

Your desktop now has an icon for every application installed on your computer. Select Internet for example, click on it.

Icons change to show only the Internet category. You'll just have to click on the applicaiton you want to launch and you're good to go. How cool is that ?
